Yesterday Bryant and I did nothing all day long. We sat at home and made some popovers, ate some soup, played games and watched about 5 episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. It was great to do nothing and not feel guilty about it! Other people, however, worked a lot yesterday. Take, for example, our landlord's handyman. He spent about 8 hours working on the little stretch of lawn by our apartment. Here's the lawn:
Probably half the size of a regular front yard in Utah. What was he doing for 8 hours? Well first he used a lawn mower on it for about 2-3 hours. No joke. He went over and over each spot, turned it off to do something, turned it back on and mowed some more. Then there was about a 45 minute break while he dragged the mower away and did who knows what, then came back out with a weed whacker. Instead of just using the weed whacker on the edges, he weed whacked the entire lawn. So that was another 2-3 hours. Then he disappeared for another half hour and came back out with a leaf blower. Which he used to blow all the cut grass out onto that little road to the side. Then he walked outside the fence and blew all the grass over against that white fence of the complex next to us. That took an hour and a half.
I know a lot of you are being skeptical over there, but he started at 11 am and didn't finish until almost seven. I don't know who taught him how to maintain a lawn, but he probably gets paid hourly.
Now on a completely unrelated note, does anyone know what this fruit is?
They're oranges. And no, they never actually get orange on the outside here. So for little Keagan, who once told me that a lime was orange, apparently I owe you an apology because oranges do look like that.
The oranges were green in Ghana too! It was funny explaining it to each new volunteer as they came :)
